CHRISTMAS CAVALCADE 2006

The Christams Cavalcade will be taking place in Pontypool on Saturday 25th November and will be comencing at 4:30 pm and ending with the switching on of the lights at approximately 4:55 pm. There are many activites taking place during the day so feel free to come along and enjoy the fun. It's fun for all !

POET OF PONTYPOOL COMPETITION Over 18 years

JUNIOR POET OF PONTYPOOL 11-18 years (please state age)

Rules and Conditions

Only one poem per entrant. Poems not to exceed 30 lines. Ages for both categories as stated above and Junior entrants must state their age. All entrants must live in the TORFAEN area. There is no entry fee.
NB: Entrant’s name must not appear on the poem but poems should be covered by a letter containing:-
v your full name and title
v your address
v the title of the poem

Entries can only be returned if accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope. Poems to be based on the topic:-

“TIMES AHEAD”

The panel of judges will be made of one nominee from each of the following:- Pontypool Community Council: Pontypool District Writers: Torfaen Library Service. Entries to be in a sealed envelope addressed to:-

Closing date is Friday 23rd June 2006 at 4.30 pm
The results will be announced at a “Presentation for the Poet of Pontypool” at the Pontypool Heritage Museum on Thursday 13 July 2006
Prize winners will be asked to read their winning poems at the Presentation Evening.
The winning entries may also be published in the local press.
As well as trophies for the first prize winners there will be monetary prizes for both competitions as follows:-

Inter Schools Eisteddfod 2006

Pontypool Communtiy Council has been involved with the webster project since its launch in 2003. They set up a page on the portal (domain) and helped promote the portal within the local area and also to other community councils within Torfaen. Their webster page which they are currently developing can be found at the following address:

Pontypool Community Council Task Force

Task Force

Pontypool Community Council employs a small Task Force (currently 3 persons) to carry out limited gardening and decorating work for residents of the Pontypool Community Council area i.e. Varteg to Sebastopol). purpose of the scheme is to help as many people as possible, particularly the elderly, registered disabled and registered blind.

For persons over 80 years of age the service if free, although if they want decorating carried out in their homes, they have to provide the wallpaper and paint. persons requiring gardening or decorating work are charged a reasonable rate, those with a disability receive a 50% discount on these charges.

The scheme itself if very successful and many elderly people in particular make use of the service.
